The following equipment arrived this morning in Mossel Bay via ST Couriers Service:
This equipment will definitely enable me to extend the AREDN: Mossel Bay Mesh Network as was indicated in my After Action Report: Fires Southern Cape (June 2017). Some of the equipment will also be used for portable mesh nodes. Updates to follow as the network is extended.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank the anonymous donor for his generous donation. We all know that this equipment are expensive due to the Rand/Dollar and that all the equipment are imported from overseas. A BIG THANK YOU to this donor. Your donation makes it worthwhile to continue the project I started in December 2016. Be assured that this network will be of great benefit to the Mossel Bay Community and will be used as before during times of emergency or disasters in the event that commercial communication systems fail in future.
The June 2017 Knysna Fires clearly reflect the lack of communications and electricity outages in Knysna during the fire disaster. On the other hand Mossel Bay also experienced Cellphone and Internet outages but the AREDN: Mossel Bay Mesh Network were up and running all the time, providing a valuable communication service to Mossel Bay and Knysna.
Unfortunately funds and equipment are needed all the time to upkeep and extend the Mesh Network. Through your donations we can keep the network running and also extend the coverage area. If you have Ubiquiti equipment surplus to requirement, please donate it to the AREDN: Mossel Bay Mesh Network. We are a non-profit based organization providing a FREE service to the Mossel Bay Community.
